We sit down with Unibet and take a look at the latest casino news from around the world:
The creation of a new Toronto casino is causing controversy and widespread divisions, sometimes even between family members and close friends, across the city.
For the supporters of such a scheme, the benefits are clear, and vast outweigh the suggested disadvantages. Proponents of the idea, including current Mayor Rob Ford, believe it would bring in millions of dollars to the city, an amount that otherwise would be spent elsewhere. With the new casino also offering residents of the city another brand new entertainment venue, and creating jobs, it is easy to see why the idea is garnering support in some quarters.
However, Olivia Chow, touted as a possible candidate to become mayor in the near future, is firmly against building a new casino in the city, either in the downtown location or the Exhibition Place location suggested by the brains behind the potential scheme.
Arguably ignoring the evidence to the latter, Chow believes that building a new casino would provide unwanted temptation to youngsters in the area who could perhaps be spending their money elsewhere. Furthermore, she has stated that the current infrastructure of the city would not support the pressure on certain areas that would result from the influx of visitors intent on visiting the site.
Chow stated: If you bring people to downtown Toronto to gamble, how are they going to get there? Its not going to happen. Where are they going to park their cars?
With thousands of residents in the city not getting bogged down on those mere details and instead looking to the more exciting potential advantages of the new casino, it would seem that finding a balance between supporting and expressing concern over the new venture will be essential for Chow if she wants to garner widespread support from the city over the coming months.
